CITC Started Wi-Fi 6E Approval and Certification
Saudi Arabia's Regulator CITC has recently issued new WLAN Regulations and correspondingly updated the Specification for Data Communication Equipment operating in License-Exempt Frequency Bands. In accordance with the above mentioned papers, Wi-Fi devices operating within the frequency band 5925–7125 MHz may be approved and certified.

SASO revised RoHS requirement implementation date
The "Technical Regulation for Restriction of hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment" published by the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO) on 2021-07-09 was originally scheduled to take effect on 2022-01-05.
However, SASO has decided to postpone the implementation date for various types of equipment as described in the table.

CITC has published updated IMT regulatory document
The Saudi Arabian Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC) has published an updated document on the "Regulation and Allocation of Commercial Spectrum Brands Identified for the International Mobile Telecommunications (IMT)" in furtherance of its National Spectrum Strategy, which aims to unlock the potential of radio spectrum in Saudi Arabia by 2025 for a smarter and safer future. The updated regulatory IMT document is part of the implementation plan for CITC's Spectrum Outlook for Commercial and Innovative Use 2021-2023.
This further strengthens CITC's strategic transition towards the role of a “Digital Regulator", and it is an expression of CITC's continuing support for the Kingdom's transformation into a digital society, with the aim of achieving a global leadership position in the field of radio communications and wireless technologies.

CITC E-Label ICT Equipment and Radio Modules
All mobile phones, tablets and mobile computers or devices that are provided with display or that can be connected to a display are required to have CITC E-Label embedded in their software as a proof of compliance.
The E-label should be affixed with the type approval certificate number (TA xxxx-y).

WiFi 6e network in Europe, Africa and Middle East region
The Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC) announced that it will be the first country in Europe, Africa and Middle East to make the full 6 GHz frequency band available for Wi-Fi use. CITC launched their public online consultation
The Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC) has launched a public consultation on the modernization of technical specifications for communication and information technology devices and equipment to accommodate the latest technological developments and enable the provisioning of state of the art communication and information technology services in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. These specifications define how all communication and information technology devices and equipment manufactured or imported to the Kingdom are used, with conformance to them being mandatory for all parties manufacturing, importing or selling these devices and equipment in the Kingdom.
The primary objectives of this update are to improve the quality of services using these devices and equipment and enable the provisioning of state of the art communication and information technology services in the Kingdom to satisfy the Kingdom's digital needs as per CITC's strategy to transform into a digital regulator.
Views are welcome from local and international telecom and technology providers, industrial stakeholders, public entities and members of the public as well as consumers of telecom and digital services. The submissions from interested parties are open till the 3rd of April, 2021. Interested parties are requested to answer the questions listed in the “Consultation Questions" section.

Requirement to support 4G technology
Please be informed that CITC has announced an additional requirement as below with respect to 4G technology support in tracking devices and machine-to-machine communication (M2M)
Further to what was clarified previously, where we have emphasized that all importers of CITC devices in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia must comply with the technical specification (RI056) issued by the Committee and which included that all terminal devices must - at minimum - support 4G and cellular transmission service in addition to applying the electronic label.
Based on that, the Committee would like to emphasize that these kind of devices must include the above-stated requirements. Otherwise such terminal devices will not be released or approved.
This requirement to support 4G technology in tracking devices and machine-to-machine communication (M2M) will come into force on 1/1/2020.
